About the Guest:
Prof Lysko is a distinguished engineer, researcher, and innovator specializing in wireless communications and networking. Holding a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, he currently serves as a Principal Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa. In addition, he holds academic positions as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cape Town and an Extraordinary Researcher at North-West University, South Africa. Prof Lysko’s career spans both industry and academia across Europe and Africa. His diverse project portfolio includes work with the mining industry, multinational corporations, regulatory bodies, and advanced applied research. Notably, his pioneering experimental research in TV White Space (TVWS) technology at the CSIR facilitated Internet access for over 20,000 users in two African countries and played a crucial role in establishing the South African national TVWS Regulation. His contributions have also influenced TVWS regulations in Ghana and the United States. His current research interests are focused on 5G/6G technologies and energy efficiency. Prof Lysko has made significant contributions to his field, evidenced by his authorship of three patents, a book, two book chapters, over 100 research papers, as well as numerous popular science and news articles. He has also led the development of various technology demonstrators. Prof Lysko’s professional achievements are widely recognized. He has received multiple awards, including four Best Paper awards and various national and CSIR accolades. His expertise and leadership have been sought after for keynote addresses, plenary sessions, and invited talks. Additionally, he has served as General Chair and Technical Chair for several international IEEE conferences. He is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) and a Senior Member of the IEEE. Prof Lysko’s contributions to the IEEE community have been honored with several international awards for his leadership in volunteer efforts.
