Dr. Pijush Samui is a distinguished Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at NIT Patna, India, with over 14 years of experience in research, teaching, and consulting. He holds a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (Shibpur, 2000), an M.Sc. in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore, 2004), and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (2008). His postdoctoral research was conducted at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) and Tampere University of Technology (Finland).
Dr. Samui’s research spans civil, geotechnical, materials, earthquake, and reliability/risk analysis, with particular expertise in soil liquefaction, lateral spreading, structural reliability, artificial intelligence in civil engineering, disaster mitigation, and site characterization. His work is supported by prestigious organizations, including the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS), and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR). Through laboratory studies, field experiments, and computer modeling, Dr. Samui’s research offers innovative solutions to real-world engineering problems.
An author of five major books and over 225 journal papers, Dr. Samui has contributed significantly to the academic community with an impressive h-index of 43 and more than 5600 citations. He has served as an Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member for numerous journals and is a respected figure in several professional committees, including the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) and ISSMGE’s Machine Learning and Big Data committee.
Dr. Samui has received multiple accolades for excellence in research and teaching, including the IIT Roorkee Shamsher Prakash Research Award and the IGS – Sardar Resham Singh Memorial Award. He is a Fellow of the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), a guest professor at the University of Science and Technology, Beijing, and holds the title of Docent at Tampere University, Finland. His career reflects his commitment to advancing the field of civil and geotechnical engineering while fostering global collaboration.
