Dr. Manikandan Velayutham is a distinguished Assistant Professor and Researcher with a rich academic and research background in the field of Biotechnology. Currently serving at the Institute of Biotechnology, Department of Medical Biotechnology and Integrative Physiology, SIMATS School of Engineering, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Thandalam, Chennai, his tenure began in December 2022. Prior to this, he contributed his expertise as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Vysya College, affiliated to Periyar University in Salem, Tamil Nadu, from June to December 2018. Dr. Velayutham’s research journey includes significant time as a Research Scholar at the Department of Biotechnology, College of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, from June 2019 to September 2022. Additionally, he has experience as a Project Assistant in Microbial Process Technology at CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, from January to March 2019. In terms of academic qualifications, Dr. Velayutham holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the Department of Biotechnology, College of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. He earned his M.Sc in Biotechnology from the Department of Biotechnology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, and his B.Sc in Biotechnology from Vysya College, affiliated to Periyar University, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Velayutham’s core competencies are vast, encompassing academic teaching, administration, curriculum development, mentoring, and academic research. He is skilled in establishing zebrafish models and conducting both In-Vitro and In-Vivo research. His area of research interest primarily focuses on basic drug discovery, emphasizing the use of zebrafish models, nanoparticle characterization, toxicology, ROS models, and microbial diversity. Dr. Velayutham’s contributions to the field are well-recognized, and his commitment to advancing biotechnological research and education continues to inspire students and peers alike.
