Dr. Nokuthula Tlalajoe-Mokhatla is a distinguished academic leader, passionately dedicated to student development and support within health sciences education. Serving as the Academic Head, Senior Lecturer, and Academic Advisor in the Division of Student Learning and Development (DSLD) at the University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa, she has been instrumental in shaping the academic journey of countless students since assuming this role in 2016. With a strong educational foundation from UFS—holding a BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology, a BSc Honours in Biochemistry, an MSc in Biochemistry (Cum Laude), and a PhD in Health Professions Education—Dr. Tlalajoe-Mokhatla exemplifies academic excellence and a deep commitment to student success.

Throughout her career, which began in 2009 as a Laboratory Assistant, she has consistently advanced in her profession, earning recognition as a respected educator and mentor. In her current capacity, she facilitates vital modules focused on developing lifelong learning skills and graduate attributes for first-year MBChB and BMed Radiation Sciences students. Dr. Tlalajoe-Mokhatla also provides individualized academic support to over 1,800 undergraduate health sciences students, guiding them in critical areas such as study strategies, time and self-management, examination techniques, and post-test reviews.

Her research interests span student support, social learning, integration, and educational transitions, with her PhD work resulting in a pioneering framework to foster social learning and integration among first-year medical students. Beyond her teaching and research, she actively contributes to the broader academic community through her involvement with the Southern African Association of Health Educationalists (SAAHE), serving on the Student Development and Support Special Interest Group. Dr. Tlalajoe-Mokhatla’s unwavering dedication, impactful leadership, and scholarly work continue to elevate health sciences education while empowering students to thrive in their academic and professional journeys.
